Q: How do I get a QR code scanner?
A: Simply go to your mobile app store and search for one! There are many to choose from and most are completely free.
Q: What if I don’t have a smartphone?
A: You are welcome to team up with someone who does. See below for details about working with someone else. Alternatively, a browser version will soon be available.
Q: Can I work with other people?
A: Yes! You are welcome to team up with a partner or small group. You can decipher the clues together, but everyone will need to individually scan the QR codes and complete the activities. You can discuss the topics with your friends, but your work should be different. If you are sharing a phone, when one person finishes, just re-scan the QR code to let someone else do the activity.
Q: How long will the game be playable?
A: I will be collecting the ProfStop signs on Friday, December 9th. Depending on its reception, I may repeat the activity in the future. Check back next semester to find out!
Q: Do I have to like or even know about Pokémon to play?
A: No! Although it’s themed around Pokémon, FrançaisMon GO requires no knowledge of the games. All of the activities relate to the topics we’ve covered together in class. If you are a Pokémon fan, however, you may get some extra entertainment and there are plenty of Easter eggs for you to discover!
Q: Can people from other French classes play?
A: Yes! Although other French instructors may not give them extra credit, they are welcome to participate for practice!
Q: What about people who don’t know French?
A: Even though the activities are designed for French students, other people can still enjoy them. They may need a French student (or Google…) to play translator, but they can submit their responses in English!
Q: What if I can’t come to Broward College?
A: Though it was originally envisioned as an on-site QR code scavenger hunt, FrançaisMon GO can also be played remotely! A browser version will be available soon!
Q: What if I lost or don’t have a MarcelDex?
A: Replacement documents are available on D2L for Prof Trent’s students, or you can check out this web version!
Q: What if I can’t find a ProfStop?
A: Contact Prof Trent. You may simply be misunderstanding the clue or not quite looking in the right place. Permission was granted to place ProfStops around campus, however something may have happened to it. In the worst case scenario, Prof Trent will send you a direct link to the activity page.
Q: How much extra credit can I get?
A: Each Pokémon you rescue is worth up to 5 points based on the quality of your work. In total, you can receive a massive 60 points if you complete the entire game! That’s 6% on your final grade! You can do as much or as little as you want.
Q: What if I don’t need extra credit? Why should I do this?
A: Even if you don’t need bonus points, the activities are still a fun and creative way to practice! There will also be special rewards for those who manage to save every Pokémon!
